Tourist accommodation must hold a classification certificate from the ministry, and the rules were rewritten by a July 2026 order that explicitly narrows the gap between hotels and private lets. Income has to be declared to ANAF, which now receives host data directly from the platforms and has been auditing on it; since 2026 short lets are taxed on 70% of gross at 10%, so roughly 7% of takings.
Tourist tax
Bucharest moved to a flat per-night charge per guest in 2026, the same amount whatever the property costs. The host collects it.
