Very safe to walk and to travel alone, with no dangerous wildlife on land. The complaint that comes up is opportunist theft from beach bags and from self-catering houses left open. In the water, the southeast trades from May to September put real current on the exposed beaches — Anse Major and parts of the south coast of Mahé have drowned confident swimmers.
