Getting treated
Good in Yerevan, where the private clinics are used to foreigners and cheap; adequate in the towns; the mountain monasteries and the far south rely on a drive back to the capital. Insurance for the repatriation rather than the treatment.
Yerevan’s tap water is drinkable and the street fountains are the point. The sun at 1,000 m is stronger than it feels. Village dogs on the trails. The driving is the real hazard to health here.

Food tip

Its own alphabet, thirty-nine letters invented in 405, so signs are unreadable and the tourist streets add Latin. Russian is spoken by everyone over forty; English is common in Yerevan among the young.
