Wherever you are: if the machine offers to charge you in your home currency, decline. That is dynamic currency conversion and the rate is set by the ATM's operator, not your bank.
Safety all of Spain
SafeSafe, and the problems here are of excess rather than crime. Drink spiking and drug-related hospital admissions rise sharply in season, balcony falls are a recurring cause of serious injury among young visitors, and scooter accidents peak in August. Taxis are genuinely hard to find at closing time — plan the way back before going out. The island is far quieter and cheaper from November to April, when much of it closes.

Getting treated
EU/EEA and Swiss visitors are treated on the same terms as residents with an EHIC or GHIC card; UK visitors use a GHIC. Everyone else pays, and travel insurance is worth having for the repatriation cover rather than the treatment.

Food tip
GoodBullit de peix, fish stewed and then its broth used to cook rice, served as two courses. Sofrit pagès inland, and flaó, a mint and cheese tart. The beach restaurants on the north coast are a fraction of the price of the ones on the south and better.
Nightlife
The clubs are the reason the island is famous and are a genuine spectacle, and they are also expensive in a way that surprises people every season.

Closing: Clubs open at midnight, fill at two and run to six or later. Nothing before eleven is worth arriving for.

A ticket is €50– €90 and water inside is €10; taxis are famously scarce at closing time and the discobús runs all night for a couple of euros.

Licence caps and a short, violent season mean the apps are unreliable here in July and August — the taxi queue at the airport and outside the clubs is the island’s standing complaint, and pre-booking a transfer is what regulars do.

Ookla publishes no separate figure for Ibiza, so these are medians for all of Spain. Cities usually beat the national number and remote islands and national parks fall well below it — treat this as the country's shape, not as a measurement of the street you will be staying on.

Nominally Catholic and deeply secular in practice. Churches are working buildings as well as sights, and Semana Santa is taken seriously even by people who never attend Mass.
Do's and don'ts

- Eat late — lunch from 14:00, dinner rarely before 21:00
- Greet with two cheek kisses, right cheek first, between women or a man and a woman
- Stand at the bar to drink; it is cheaper than sitting and more sociable
- Say buenos días on entering a small shop, and adiós on leaving
Don't
- Do not expect anything to be open between 14:00 and 17:00 outside the big cities
- Do not order sangria in a serious restaurant — it is a tourist drink; ask for tinto de verano
- Do not tip heavily; rounding up or a euro or two is normal
- In Barcelona, do not assume Catalan and Spanish are interchangeable — the distinction matters to people
