General Luna has a handful of machines and they run out. Bring cash from Cebu or Manila; most of the island is cash only.
Wherever you are: if the machine offers to charge you in your home currency, decline. That is dynamic currency conversion and the rate is set by the ATM's operator, not your bank.

SafeSafe and small. The reef is the hazard: Cloud 9 breaks over shallow coral and beginners get cut on it, the rock pools are only there at low tide, and scooters plus sand plus rain is how most visitors get hurt. Typhoon Odette flattened the island in 2021 and the rebuilding is visible.

Getting treated
Manila and Cebu have genuinely good private hospitals. Standards drop sharply on the smaller islands, where a clinic may be a nurse and a room — Palawan in particular means a flight to Manila for anything serious. There is a recompression chamber in Cebu and one in Coron for diving injuries.
Dengue is common and there is no prophylaxis. Do not drink tap water. Any animal bite means a clinic the same day. Divers should confirm their insurance covers the chamber and an evacuation flight.

Food tip
GoodBeachfront places in General Luna cook better than the prices suggest. Kinilaw — raw fish in vinegar and coconut — is the local dish, and the market in Dapa is where the island shops.
