Turkish machines charge high foreign-card fees, so withdraw more at a time. Resorts quote euros at a poor internal rate — pay in lira wherever the choice is offered.
Wherever you are: if the machine offers to charge you in your home currency, decline. That is dynamic currency conversion and the rate is set by the ATM's operator, not your bank.
Safety all of Turkey
SafeComfortable and used to visitors. The real risks are the paragliding, which is safe with a reputable outfit and worth checking the licence for, and the roads — narrow, steep, and driven fast. The lagoon is calm; the open beach has a current. The Lycian Way is unshaded and people underestimate it.

Getting treated
Private hospitals in Istanbul are genuinely excellent and a fraction of Western European prices, with English spoken in the international departments. State hospitals are free for emergencies but slow and rarely English-speaking. Insurance is strongly advised — you will be asked to pay up front at private hospitals.
Tap water is chlorinated but heavily mineralised; almost everyone drinks bottled.

Food tip
Very goodFethiye’s fish market is the meal: buy the fish at a stall and one of the restaurants around it cooks it for a fee. Meze, çöp şiş, and the Tuesday market for everything else. Ölüdeniz prices are twice Fethiye’s.

Paspatur, the old bazaar quarter, has the bars; Ölüdeniz has the beach clubs and the British pubs.

Around 99% Muslim by heritage, but the state is constitutionally secular and Istanbul is cosmopolitan. Women cover their heads to enter mosques, everyone removes shoes, and mosques close to visitors during the five prayer times.
