Reasonably safeComfortable and welcoming, and worth saying plainly: this is a hundred kilometres from the Syrian border, there are military checkpoints on the roads, and the passport gets looked at. Visitors have travelled here without incident for years, and the town itself is calm. Do not photograph checkpoints or soldiers, keep off the border roads, and read your own government’s advice before you book, because it covers this province specifically.
