Very safeVery comfortable. The lake itself is the thing to respect: the Ora wind gets up almost every afternoon in the north and the water is cold enough below the surface to cramp a strong swimmer. The shore road tunnels have no pavement in places and are unpleasant on foot.

Very goodLake fish, which is worth taking seriously here: coregone, lavarello, and sardines from the lake cured and grilled. Olive oil from the northern shore, which is among the most northerly in the world, and Bardolino and Lugana from the southern hills.

- Do not sit on monument steps in Rome or Florence; both cities fine it
