Good valueEuro, and cards are taken almost everywhere, contactless included on the buses. Cash still matters at the market stall, the small bar and the church that asks a coin for the lights. Never change money at a station booth; the rate there is the worst in the country.

Food tip
Very goodThe food is Central European as much as Italian: jota, a bean and sauerkraut soup; boiled pork with mustard and horseradish at a buffet, which here means a particular kind of hot-meat bar; and coffee ordered in a vocabulary used nowhere else in Italy — ask for a nero, not a caffè.

Quieter than an Italian city its size, and it starts in the old coffee houses rather than a piazza. The Cavana quarter has the bars.
